Different Venues, Different Results

I'm going to briefly discuss one of the 4 Ps of marketing - Place (also known as distribution.) As part of this project, we were going to look at selling our value-added products in retail and specialty stores.

We have sold most of our candied walnuts at Farmers Markets or Special Events with great success. We have also tried selling them at various specialty stores and other retail outlets, but with a much slower turnover rate.

When we were able to demo the product and sample it, our sales were always significantly higher, even triple the amount than when we didn't demo. That would account for the greater turnover at the Farmers Market where we have the opportunity to interact with the buyer. It also helps the buyer to connect with the farmer and establish a trusting relationship that carries over to the other produce the farmer is marketing.
